Lai Chi Kok is the cheapest place to store in self storage for small apartments Hong Kong. There’s factories, it’s easy to get to and it’s cheap. This is great if you have left a suitcase in the MTR.
Now the more interesting part of mini storage is the price variations in Lai Chi Kok. You can find very low end (and some locker sized) storage for very cheap. But further up the market, you can actually fit inside the storage space, and it will be more expensive. Not much, but enough to make you think about storage.
We all start too big. I did. You want, but don’t need. You don’t need all that space if you want to store, not hoard.
They don’t need access either. 24 hours is good but not all are 24 hours. Feels like a big difference. If you can remember you need something at 11 PM these features are more important than price.
Lai Chi Kok is generally a good address if you’re close to MTR. That’s a big deal. Self storage is good until it’s not. If you’re not, you won’t and you will have a storage unit (aka a waste of space).
Deals are deals but deals are deals for a time. Free month, buy two for one, sometimes a deal. You want to save money but deals are deals. And then you pay full price, several times and you think.
They are nicer than you think. Some are modern – clean and bright. Some are more utilitarian, a bit more tattered. Not bad, but you can see it when you are there looking at where you are going to leave your stuff for months.
Access is usually good, but it is different. Pins, cards, CCTV. I don’t mind if it is flashy, just good.
What is not said: it is good. This is hard to say. If it’s scary and cold, you will be afraid. If it’s warm and safe you don’t have to worry about it.
Lai Chi Kok mini storage is good if it’s natural. It’s cheap, easy and convenient. That’s the trick.
